Our vibrant dance studio

At KRS Dance, we are making a big impact with excellent results in ballet and tap exams, success in both solo and troupe competitions and by producing confident and capable dancers and choreographers. We cater equally for the serious dancer preparing for a career in the industry and those people dancing for fun and recreation. For kids, we recognise the importance of our dancers wearing age-appropriate costumes and dancing to age-appropriate concepts.

Classes

With qualified and passionate staff, we offer fully-structured classes in Jazz, Ballet (RAD), Contemporary, Modern (lyrical), Hip Hop, Acro and Tap. We also have performance classes, stretch and technique classes and Flexi Stretch classes, boys-only Hip Hop classes and Kindy Kids classes. We also offer private lessons, coaching, extension classes and have regular guest teachers.

Studio

Our beautiful dance studios in Kirrawee, NSW have airthrust sprung floors, dance vinyl, air conditioning, mirrors and barres. The environment inspires excellence in our teaching and helps us to administer safe dance practices. We also host classes in Sylvania Heights Community Centre, Ev and Bow Full Time Dancing Training Studios and Gymea Baptist Church.

Programs

We cater for all aspiring dancers. Our Extension Programs are designed for the serious dancer who is training at an elite level. Our Recreation Program is for beginners and those who love to dance but can't commit beyond their classwork and end of year concert. We have a great pre-school program for young dancers providing the fundamentals of dance.

KRS Dance also provides quality dance education within Primary Schools and High schools, for dance ensembles or troupes, school syllabus K - 12 and for HSC dance coaching or mentoring - with teachers working in a number of schools in the Sutherland Shire and St George area of NSW. We strive to build a positive self-image in dancers and build a love and appreciation of dance as an artform.

Our pre-school program forges friendships and social interaction, and provides the fundamentals of dance education in a safe and nurturing environment.

Our performance team have lots of great opportunities to dance together - such as Shark Park, The Easter show, Eisteddfods & our annual concerts at Sutherland and NIDA Theatres.

Boys dance too at KRS Dance! We provide boys-only classes to encourage boys to participate in dance with their peers and to participate in our recreation and New Boys Crew.

Our unique Flexistretch program is designed to specifically condition the dancing body safely.

Our student teacher training program provides important support for teachers and dancers.

Our dancers have opportunities to perform at Community Events such as the Royal Easter Show.

Our Dance Classes

Dance Classes

General dance classes are designed for groups of dancers wanting to learning the fundamental skills and style of different genres of dance. They aim to train beginners right up to experienced dancers.

Classical Ballet (RAD) \ Jazz \ Lyrical (Modern) \ Contemporary \ Acro \ Mat and Tumble work \ Hip Hop \ Tap (Glenn Wood and Open work) \ Musical Theatre \ Pre-school program \ boys-only classes

Our general stream has no prerequisites or prior experience. Dancers can choose many or a few classes a week, which are divided into age groups so that appropriate skills and content may be taught in each class.

We have some combo classes where there are two different styles taught to our dancers.

The KRS preschool program has a variety of classes for the younger dancer. babyballet®, mini Jazz, mini acro, mini stretch, mini tap and mini boys hip hop classes are a perfect starting place for the beginner, providing the fundamentals of dance in fun classes. With 20 classes on the timetable per week we are sure to find the perfect class for any pre-schooler taking their first dance steps.

KRS boys-only classes encourage boys to participate in dance with their peers. Boys are also encouraged to participate in our recreation and extension streams.

Training Classes

Training classes assist our dancers in their styles classes. They help improve flexibility, balance and control - while providing extra skills training, improved strength and conditioning.

Strength and Stretch \ Technique, skills and progressions training \ Flexi Stretch classes \ Mat and Tumble classes \ Advanced skills training

KRS Flexi Stretch classes are part of a unique conditioning program for dancers, assisting them - through use of resistance straps - to increase their strength and flexibility. We also include balance equipment to improve control and strength. This is a total conditioning program for dancers to complement their dance classes.

The KRS strength and technique class is designed to help dancers build strength and flexibility for dance.

The KRS Progressions class is where dancers can learn skills such as jumps, turns and extensions to complement their dance training for various styles.

KRS Mat and Tumble classes and Acro classes are where dancers can learn skills, tricks, tumbles, cartwheels, contemporary tricks, and partnering - safely and in a specific class with trained teachers and equipment.

Our teachers are available for private lessons to assist with extra training, solo work and exam preparation.

Specialised Classes

Specialised classes include performance opportunities for all dancers, classes for elite and aspiring-elite dancers looking for a career in dance, and a classical ballet program.

Performance program \ Extension program \ Classical Ballet \ Pre-professional Class

The KRS performance program allows our dancers to gain performance opportunities and much needed stage experience. Our dancers are regular performers at the Sydney Easter Show, compete in Eisteddfods, attend workshops, festivals and other opportunities as they arise.

The KRS extension program is designed to challenge elite and dedicated dancers and provides them with a strong technical base, so they are well prepared for fulltime courses and University auditions at pre-professional level.

The KRS classical ballet program is a full range of classes - from Babyballet® through to Advanced ballet. We follow the RAD syllabus and consistently achieve excellent results in ballet exams. Students may participate in ballet workshops and extra training and performances beyond our studio. We have both a recreational and exam ballet stream ensuring all students are challenged.

The KRS pre-professional class provides elite and passionate dancers mentoring, training, support, guidance and opportunities as they head out into the industry, full time dance training programs or Vocational Dance Courses. Places are by application only. We already have had success with our current students gaining contracts, attending full-time dance while working professionally.

At KRS Dance, we believe passionately in a rich diversity of experiences, genres and abilities. This is reflected in our eclectic and ever-evolving faculty of dancers and performers, and our blend of experience and youthful exuberance.

Kylie Saunders: Principal (B.App.Arts. (Dance)./B.Ed)

Kylie Saunders is the Principal of KRS dance, and although she loves this role and the Studio her first love will always be teaching. Kylie still enjoys teaching all students from Babyballet®, recreational classes and adores teaching her performance and extension students and guiding our senior students into Pre-professional classes. Kylie believes that dance is for everybody and continues to provides extension and support for passionate dancers.

"For 14 years I taught Dance and Drama at Kirrawee High School where I was the dance coordinator. During that time I established HSC Dance Elective classes and helped to create a large and successful dance faculty. My HSC results in dance and Drama were consistently above the state average, with most students receiving a band 5 or 6 in these subjects".

"As a younger dancer I was taught by Susan and Peter Farrell and at the age of eighteen I joined the teaching faculty, where I taught for 14 years. During this time my choreography and our students won numerous prizes in Eisteddfods, in group, solo and duo competitions in Eisteddfods State wide. They have won scholarships and championships and have been much respected in the dance community".

"Many of my students have successfully auditioned for secondary and tertiary dance courses such as the University of New South Wales Dance Education Degree, The Victorian College of the Arts, Queensland school of Dance Excellence, The NSW Public Schools State Dance Ensembles, The Wesley Institute, Ev and Bow full time training centre, WAPA, The McDonald College and “So You Think You Can Dance”..".

  • Achievements

    My students received 38 Callback nominations since 2002, having been nominated to perform at an exhibition for exemplary HSC dance works.

    I have had students ranked 2nd and 5th in the state for HSC dance.

  • Experience

    Choreographer for the Schools Spectacular in 2006 and 2007 and have been employed by the NSW Public Schools Performing Arts Unit as a tutor and choreographer.

    Established and co-coordinated the Sydney Region Dance Camps and Ensembles in 2007 and co-choreographed the Sydney Region Middle School Dance Ensemble.

    Choreographed for the Sydney Region opening of the school year concert.

    Employed by the Office of the Board of Studies as a HSC Dance and Drama Practical Examiner since 2001.

Amanda Chisholm

Amanda has successfully completed Pre-primary to Advanced 2 examination in the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus as well as all gradings from Danish to Russian within the Khorobuska National Character syllabus . Along with her in training classical dance, Amanda has taught lyrical, contemporary, musical theatre, jazz and national character in both class and performance based settings including concert and eisteddfods routines .

Amanda has additionally obtained a Bachelor of Dance Education and has taught dance and physical education within the NSW Department of Education within both primary and high schools.

  • Achievements

    Amanda is a mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance for current students attending the Rad CBTS teacher course to guide students through their practical teaching modules.

  • Experience

    Amanda completed the Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies under Marie Walton Mahon and has been teaching for over 15 years in classical ballet.

Elissa Golding

Elissa has danced since she was 2 years old, and has been trained in lyrical, contemporary, jazz, acro and tap. The passion she had for dancing started when she was only two years old and it has only become stronger as she has grown up.

"My Vision for my classes at KRS dance in 2019 is to keep the love for dance growing, and share the love I have for dancing and teaching with every one of my students. I want everyone to have fun and enjoy the classes they do, walk away from class with a smile on their face and knowing they have learnt something new each week. I can’t wait to be on an amazing journey this year teaching the baby’s up to seniors and having the passion for dancing grow stronger throughout the year. KRS is an amazing dance school, since I joined in 2011 I have grown as a dancer, teacher and performer, am now I am continuing on to teaching. I can’t wait to give everything and more back to the students and studio. 2019 is going to be a big year! KRS is a dance family you will always have".

    Elissa is now a professional dancer with Samba Brazil and a showgirl for an Elvis tribute show.

Rebecca McDonald

Rebecca began her dance training at the age of 3 at Kennedy Dance Academy and moved to KRS Dance Studio at the age of 12. She has been trained in ballet, jazz, lyrical/contemporary, and tap.

Rebecca has been student teaching at KRS since the age of 13 and teacher for multiple classes including our Petite Performers classes, Babyballet® and our Primary School's program. Rebecca is also a valued member of our office administrative team.

  • Achievements

    Rebecca has competed regularly in both Solo and Group Eisteddfods and was a valued member of our Senior Performance team and enjoyed our 2017 tour to the USA.

  • Experience

    Rebecca is also a fully trained makeup artist completing her Certificate IV at the end of 2015, which has been of great use at our Eisteddfods so far! As well as working as a makeup artist, Rebecca would love to continue to teach dance for many years to come.

Alex Dunlop

Alex has trained in all styles of dance from a very young age, this also includes Ballroom, Acrobatics and Aerial training. Alex graduated from Brent Street full-time with her certificate 4 in 2011.

Shortly after her graduation she was contracted in Opera Australia's very first production on Sydney Harbour 'La Traviata'. Alex then quickly landed her first overseas contract with 'Royal Caribbean Productions' where she continued to work for 2 years. Alex was also hired as an aerialist on board the ships where she had to under go aerial training by the world renowned company 'C5' which is based in Chicago.

In Alex's dance career she has had the opportunity to dance for several artist's in events such as Mardi Gras, AACTA awards and So You Think You Can Dance. These artists include: Kelly Rowland, Olivia Newton John, The Potbelleez, Alexis Jordan and Delta Goodrem.

Not only was she just a dancer this time but she was also cast as an acrobat and aerialist where she had to under go aerial training by the world renowned company 'C5' which is based in Chicago.

Alex was also a part of the 'Sydney Kings Harlequins' and the 'Cronulla Sharks Mermaids' Some of her recent works have been a featured dancer on season 3 of channel 9's 'Love Child', A dancer in the film 'Gods Of Egypt'. She was recently selected for a professional program of 10 contemporary dancers who performed at Bangarra Dance Company under the names of Sarah Boutler and Eira Glover. Alex was also a cast member in Chinese New Year 2017 and 2018 professional dance company alongside some very talented artists all under the direction of Virgina Ferris.

  • Achievements

    Alex is performing with 'Samba Brazil Entertainment' and 'The Showmasters Co' who are a diverse group of dancers/ aerialists/ acrobats and fire twirlers. The Showmasters co are currently performing with magician Adam Dean and are also a headliner act on cruise ships through Grayboy Entertainment.

    With all of her dancing she is also a trained singer, actress and choreographer who is extremely dedicated and passionate about all that she does.

Aaron Gobby

Aaron is a graduate of the Victorian College of The Arts (VCA) 2016 Musical Theatre Foundation Program as well as the 2017 Diploma of Musical Theatre from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).

Aaron made his professional debut in ‘Cry Baby The Musical’ at the Hayes Theatre as a Whiffle and Featured Ensemble member. In the same year he also became part of the Green Light Process Workshop for DvA The Musical, originating the role of ‘Norak’.

Aaron specialises in teaching Drama and Singing to all ages and levels and adores the energy and enthusiasm the students at KRS present him every week!

Aaron's vision for KRS performers this year is to help them find confidence in being seen and heard and not shying away from a challenge!

"Singing can be very demanding at times whether it be a tough song or nervousness in getting up in front of people so I want to encourage students to believe that if something makes you nervous its because you care about it! If you care that much about it then it's worth learning from! There is never anything wrong with not knowing it all so I hope that this year my students get more curious, ask more questions, experiment with new characters and never shy away from something challenging".

    At NIDA Aaron was given the opportunity to perform with Sydney Theatre Company’s production of ‘Chimerica’ directed by Kip Williams along with various Cabaret shows, music videos and short films

Cassie Woodward

Cassie began her dance training in Sydney at the age of 9 and is trained in Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, Musical Theatre, Tap, Hip Hop, and Acrobatics.

Throughout her high school education Cassie was a member of the NSW Public School's State Dance Company where she represented the company as a featured dancer at numerous regional and state dance festivals in Australia. During this time, Cassie also toured the United States, training at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and The Merce Cunningham Studio in New York, New World School of the Arts in Miami, and Alonzo King Lines Dance Center in San Francisco.

Upon completing her Higher School Certificate, Cassie was presented with the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Dance’ award, received 3 nominations for Callback, and performed as a highlighted artist in the School’s Spectacular on national television.

Cassie went on to be accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts (University of Melbourne) where she studied a Bachelor of Dance Degree. Here she trained in Contemporary, Ballet, Duo, Improvisation and Choreography under Phillip Adams, Antony Hamilton, Stephen Heathcote (The Australian Ballet), and worked with choreographers including Becky Hilton, Sandra Parker, and Frances Rings (Bangarra Dance Theatre).

As a teacher, Cassie is committed to building supportive relationships with students whilst creating a positive learning environment that enables them to achieve their goals and express themselves. Cassie believes that the studio is a place to create, grow, and develop passion for life and dance.

  • Achievements

    Since graduating, Cassie has presented work for Nokia, Vivid Sydney, Nikon, Myer, FBI SMACs Festival, YouTube Brandcast, and Time Out Magazine. Cassie also works with entertainment company Entertainment Works Australia with which she regularly performs and tours in their production shows for corporate and private events around the state.

    Cassie is also a part of collaborative duo act called Fluxx. They have choreographed and performed for numerous music videos, including international producer Mat Zo. Other creits include Alaska Projects, Sydney Fringe Festival, Artmonth, Secret Garden Festival and Vice.

  • Experience

    Cassie recently performed at DEEPFACE with New York rapper and performance artist Mykii Blanco, collaborating with Bhenji Ra and Guerre. Cassie is currently working on a site-specific work with Alaska Projects.

Rebecca Rattew A.R.A.D

Rebecca is a qualified teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance and has taken students on many dance tours throughout Australia.

Rebecca danced for 15 years at various schools including Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy culminating in her studies at the English National Ballet School in London.

Rebecca studied various styles of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Character, Modern and Contemporary. Rebecca received excellent results in all her RAD examinations including top marks in her major RAD ballet exams.

She was a member of Sydney Youth Ballet Company starring in the lead role of 'The Little Matchgirl'. She twice guested as Principal artist for the South Australia Classical Youth Ballet Company.

"I am an Royal Academy of Dance Mentor for the teachers certificate. My vision for the KRS students is to Develop and refine their technique in a positive environment. Through sharing my love of dance I want to encourage and challenge all students to reach 'their' personal best. I want to provide new and interesting experiences and choreography.I want students to learn to express their emotions through classical dance. I want to support the students both inside and outside the exam environment by offering extra performance and dance education experiences".

  • Achievements

    Rebecca ran a successful dance school for 17 years with students successfully auditioning for the Australian Ballet school interstate program and Dance Dr.

    Rebecca also competed overseas in the Adeline Genee Awards in London & Prix De Luasanne in Switzerland. These awards are most coveted in dance circles.

  • Experience

    Rebecca competed in numerous Eisteddfods during her career and received many awards, including winning the City of Sydney Eisteddfod Demi Character section and also the Contemporary section.

Erin Barney

Erin began her training in Tasmania at the age of 5. Under the direction of Ken Mcswain she gained her love and knowledge for dance and acrobatics as a child she dreamed of one day running away with the circus.

Erin is also a trained artistic gymnast. During her time at Hobart Gymnastics Academy she gained many awards and competed in many state titles. In 2013 Erin relocated to Sydney to study dance at Ev & Bow Full-Time Training Centre under the contemporary direction of Sarah Boulter and Lisa Bowmer.

  • Achievements

    Erin has worked with many top choreographers in the industry. Some of her most recent ventures include – Understudy to Eden Petrovski in Shaun Parker & Company’s SPILL, featured dancer for City Of Sydney in Chinese Newyear and Mardigras and SONY dancer in the Daft Punk Australian Album Launch.

  • Experience

    Erin will be dancing under the direction of Lucas Jervies in Opera Australia’s production of AIDA.

Alexandra Colagiuri

Alexandra began her dance training at the age of 3 at Kennedy Dance Academy before moving to KRS Dance in 2009 where she continued to study RAD Ballet and took Modern/Contemporary, Jazz and Tap classes.

In 2011, Alexandra began training as a teacher under Miss Sue through KRS Dance’s Student Teaching Program and has since assisted in and taught many classes across different styles and age groups.

She hopes to further improve her teaching abilities and knowledge of the RAD syllabi by completing the RAD’s Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies in the near future.

"My vision for KRS Dancers is to inspire a new generation of students to leap into the studio and express themselves through dance. For young children who are just starting, I hope my Babyballet® and pre-primary classes provide an enjoyable and nurturing environment to safely introduce them into the magical world of dance and also give them the vital foundations of dance. For my older ballet students who are training to pursue the artform or just as a recreational activity, I hope to be able to provide them with the tools to grow both as an individual and extend themselves as a dancer. I believe each student is gifted with an amazing quality and everyone has the ability to strive for and achieve their personal best, I am looking forward to seeing this shine throughout all classes especially as we prepare for performances and ballet exams throughout the year".

    Alexandra is currently in her 5th year of study at Sydney University and her final year of the RAD's Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies. Also as also attended many RAD CPD courses and conferences as well as trained as a Babyballet® teacher.

  • Experience

    Alexandra has participated in primary and high school dance programs and ensembles performing in Rock Eisteddfod Raw and School Spectacular as well as local fundraisers and eisteddfods.

Emma Gobby

Emma Gobby trained at KRS dance from a young age, and has gone through the student teacher programs at KRS for years, along side Kylie Saunders. Emma went through our performance stream for many years and has been trained in jazz, contemporary, lyrical, ballet, and acro.

"I would love to share with the KRS kids, the creativity behind dance, and being able to convey a message through quality of movement. I also want the KRS kids to grow and maintain strength and correct technique throughout the year. This will be incorporated throughout my stretch and strength classes as well as the acro / mat and tumble. This is important within every style of dance and having strength and knowledge I believe will help the kids grow as performers and people".

  • Achievements

    Emma received her Certificate IV in 2017, and her diploma of dance in 2018, in the elite performance stream at Ev & Bow Full-time Dance Training Centre, under the guidance of Sarah Boulter and Lisa Bowmer.

  • Experience

    Emma has experience teaching a variety of styles, including Contemporary, Lyrical, Acro, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Stretch & Strength and Musical Theatre. Emma has completed her Acrobat arts certificate, qualifying her to teach acro and mat classes at a high level as well as beginner classes. Emma brings a positive and motivating attitude to her classes. She has a strong passion for teaching & creating, and is excited to share.

Kira Nelson

Kira is an international performer who is currently based in Sydney. She completed her Diploma of Performing Arts at ED5International in 2012. Since graduating, Kira has been travelling the world performing and training overseas, commencing with a contract on Royal Caribbean: Voyager of the Seas, before continuing her training in New York, LA and London.

Kira is also making her mark as an Australian choreographer in many forms. She recently launched her own tap dance company 'T∀P' (Tap For All) – with the aim of fusing different dance styles with tap, and therefore widening its audience. The company recently performed their first full-length show 'Colour eMotion' to critical acclaim and wonderful reviews. Keep your eyes open for workshops and tour dates.

My vision is To inspire them not only as students but also as individuals, to keep them striving for more and help them realise their true potential. My aim is to give them someone who believes in them so that they can believe in themselves. In particular I want to help my students discover the variety and versatility that tap dance can provide.

  • Achievements

    Since returning from her travels, Kira has been re establishing herself on the scene, performing in the X factor finals, in the award winning Stephen Tannos project 'The Process', and cementing herself as a vital part of Natasha Crane Creations with performances including Sydney Mardi Gras and Macau Festival. Kira is also a current member of DUTI – Dancing Under The Influence, who recently performed ‘UNDER MINDS’ to sold-out crowds.

  • Experience

    Kira has also had many choreographic opportunities including a Triple J Unearthed music video, 'The Lazy's – Howling Woman' video as well as routines for casinos overseas. Kira was assistant choreographer for 'Cats' presented by Packemin Youth Productions, and is the National Champion of Kelley Abbey's Choreographic Challenge (hosted by Dancelife Unite).
